Killing time

If you are bored and feel like being creative with your graphic software, stop on by the Doc Martens design competition - it's great fun!

Here's my first design... feel free to vote if you like it? Another one should be online tonight.

Save some trees - stop junk mail!

GreendimesNow unfortunately, I can't participate - but anyone living in the States, this should be on your to-do list!

GreenDimes will greatly reduce your junk mail for five years, therefore saving trees. And they do this for free! Even better, when signing up for their free service, they actually plant a tree on your behalf!

Personally, I would even pay their premium membership ($20), which gets you more service and more trees.

My new passion

Yes, my half-finished "logo" post is still taunting me... which is why I haven't written for ages, feeling so guilty.

Here's the deal - I have craft ADD. Meaning I get bored from time to time with what I do and want to branch out. My newest branch is glass fusing - or at least it will be once all my supplies are in.

Here are some reasons for me to start fusing:

As always, it was a spur of the moment thing that is cleaning me out. :) I had been thinking about it for a while, then got a tiny kiln for a very good price.... and then spent 5x as much on supplies, controller, and books.

And time - oh my god, just finding everything took time! The thing is, hardly no-one fuses in Germany. I can get some stuff, but usually at twice the price I would pay in the States. So right now, I have two packages coming in from the States - one through Etsy, one through eBay. The stuff that is too large to mail will be ordered in Germany. And the controller - that one was adapted for me.

Usually, for small kilns you use a temperature gauge and an impulse controller, where you need to figure out which temperature you can reach how fast. That already costs app. 180€; a kiln controller where you only need to set the target temperature is usually around 460€. But! After hours on the Internet, I found one meant for a completely different use - at 210€. They changed the thermometer for me, and I am soooo excited!

That's another of my weaknesses... wanting to do things right from the beginning. :)

So hopefully, you will soon see my first fusing pieces!
